The FTP protocol is used by more and more people, as it's more reliable and offers more flexibility, compared to other file storage and sharing solutions, like email attachments. Still, in order to connect to a FTP server and upload or download files, you will first need to have a FTP client installed into your operating system. Unfortunately, the command-line FTP client which is included in Windows is really difficult to use and also difficult to learn.

Fortunately, there are numerous FTP clients on the market, most of them offering a friendly user interface and intuitive controls. One such client is FTPShell Client. This Windows application offers all the features you need for reliably connecting to any FTP server and perform file and folder operations at maximum speed and simplicity.

After the program has been installed and launched, you first need to type the FTP server address, username, password and port and then click on the Connect button. At this point, you will notice that the interface resembles the one of Windows Explorer, having your local file system in the lower part and the files and folders stored on the FTP server in the upper part. You can transfer files from one place to another by using drag and drop. Optionally, you can use the graphical buttons included in the program's toolbar for uploading or download files, but this method is a bit slower.

You can connect to several FTP servers at the same time and store each one of them in a separate session in the tabbed interface. You are able to switch between sessions just like switching between several web pages in a web browser.

FTPShell Client features a "Compare/Sync" feature, which allows you to sync files and folders between the local file system and the FTP server. This feature is useful when wanting to back up all your local files and you want to make sure that even the most recent modified files are present on the FTP server.

Pros

It allows you to connect to multiple FTP servers at the same time and switch between them using tabs. Besides that, it allows you to transfer files either by using drag and drop or by accessing the graphical toolbar. Furthermore, you can sync files between the local hard disk and FTP server in real time.

Cons

The trial version can only work for 30 days. By using FTPShell Client you can easily connect to any FTP server and perform file and folder operations using drag and drop.
